Common residential capacities (5–15 kWh), what households they suit, and why nameplate kWh is not the whole story.

Australian homes most often install battery systems between about 5 kWh and 15 kWh usable capacity, though commercial offerings range wider. Nameplate size is not the same as usable energy — reserve, inverter limits, and depth of discharge all matter on site.
Federal rebates, many state programs, and some network connection rules require a battery model on the Clean Energy Council approved batteries list. Approval is per model and capacity — a brand name alone is not enough. Your installer should quote a specific listed SKU; you can cross-check on the CEC search or the Clean Energy Regulator download.
The brands below are commonly seen on Australian home installs. This is not a complete list, endorsement, or guarantee that every product they sell is currently CEC-approved.
A 10 kWh sticker does not automatically fit a home using 28 kWh/day if you only want four hours of cover. Work from your bill daily averages and solar window first — that is what our is for.

Batteries also have a maximum discharge rate in kilowatts. A small battery may not run oven + aircon simultaneously even if total kWh over the evening is enough. This tool estimates energy capacity only — ask your installer about power limits and backup circuits.
