Privacy policy

Last updated 11 August 2026

This policy explains how Solar Battery Calculator ("the site", available at solarbatterycalc.com) handles information when you use the calculator and related pages.

What we collect

The calculator is designed to work without an account. The energy figures you type (bill averages, solar values, appliance settings, preferences) are processed in your browser to produce a recommendation. We do not require your name, email address, or payment details to use the tool.

Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard technical logs such as IP address, browser type, timestamps, and requested URLs for security and reliability.

Anonymous recommendation feed

When you reach the Results step, we automatically save an anonymous snapshot of your recommended battery size and rounded inputs (typical daily load, solar generation/export, cover hours, reserve, and optional load tags such as EV or pool). This powers the "Recent recommendations" cards on the results page and homepage so other visitors can see real-world examples.

We derive an approximate country, region/state, and city label from your IP address on the server for display (for example "Subiaco, WA" in Australia or "San Francisco, CA, US" elsewhere). Location is approximate — often city or ISP area, not a precise address — and may reflect a VPN or mobile network exit node. We do not store your raw IP in the feed database. IP is also used briefly for rate limiting (one submission per address every ten minutes). Entries are kept for about 30 days and are not linked to your name or account.

Share links

If you use Share, the site encodes your calculator inputs into the URL fragment (the part after #). Anyone with that link can reconstruct the same inputs and results. Only share links with people you trust. Clearing the hash or starting over discards that snapshot from the address bar. Share links are separate from the anonymous feed above.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

When advertising is enabled, Google AdSense (or similar partners) may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where permitted. You can learn more and manage ad personalisation through Google’s published tools and your browser settings. We only place ad units next to substantial page content (for example article guides or detailed results), not on empty entry gates, form wizard steps, or pages that are mainly navigation or policy text.

If we add first-party analytics later, this policy will be updated to describe the provider and data categories.

Third-party services

  • Site hosting and delivery (Firebase Hosting / Cloud Functions)
  • Anonymous recommendation storage (Cloud Firestore)
  • Google AdSense, when ads are turned on for the site

Changes

We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
